Hearing God in the Silence

There are seasons in life when everything around us feels uncertain when the skies are dark, the winds are relentless, and hope seems hidden behind layers of exhaustion and unanswered prayers. These are the moments we often describe as “storms.” Not just passing difficulties, but deep, soul-wearying trials that leave us wondering where God is and why He feels so quiet.
Yet, it is often in this very silence that something sacred is happening.
When the noise of life fades; when the distractions are stripped away and all that remains is the ache in your heart; you begin to encounter a different kind of voice. Not loud. Not demanding. But steady. Gentle. Faithful.
The whisper of the Holy Spirit.
It doesn’t always come with immediate answers or visible solutions. It doesn’t always calm the storm right away. Instead, it speaks something deeper:
“I am here."
“You are not alone.”
“I am carrying you.”
In the natural, we often look for evidence of hope in what we can see: changed circumstances, open doors, healing, restoration. But faith calls us to something greater. It calls us to trust in what is unseen. To believe that even when everything around us feels like it’s falling apart, God is still holding every piece together.
The truth is, some of the most powerful work God does happens in the hidden places.
In the quiet moments when tears fall and no one else sees. In the long nights when sleep won’t come and prayers feel repetitive. In the tired days when simply getting through feels like a victory.
It is there in that sacred, silent space—that God is strengthening you. He is building a faith that is not dependent on circumstances. He is forming endurance that cannot be shaken by the storm. He is reminding your heart that His presence is not measured by noise, but by nearness.
And He is near. Even when you don’t feel it. Even when you don’t hear Him clearly. Even when your strength is gone.
The storm may rage around you, but it does not define you. Nor does it determine the outcome of your story. Because the same God who calms the storm is also the One who walks with you through it.
Sometimes He speaks to the wind. Sometimes He speaks to your heart. And sometimes ... He simply carries you.
So if you find yourself in a season where hope feels distant and God feels quiet, lean into the silence instead of running from it. Listen closely not with your ears, but with your spirit.
Because in that stillness, you may discover something powerful: You are not abandoned. You are not forgotten. You are being held. And even now, in the midst of the storm God is speaking.
